Fescue Grass
Fescue grass is one of the most popular groups of ornamental grasses. Fescue grass is a cool season, clump-forming grass that requires protection from the hot afternoon sun. The blue and gold foliage forms are the most popular. The blue fescue grass is a cool season, evergreen, ornamental garden species of fescue. The silvery-blue foliage forms a small, dense mound of spiky tufts of fine foliage. This fescue grass is a good focal point in small areas as specimen plant.

Fescue grass prefers a loose, well-draining soil. Fescue grass can thrive in full sun to part shade. Fescue grass does well in cool, coastal areas. Fescue grass is very drought and heat tolerant. It is also deer resistant. Fescue grass will not do well in wet poorly drained soil. Place fescue grass in a full sun location.

The blue gray foliage creates great pattern effect in borders or as a foreground planting. Fescue grass will not tolerate foot traffic. This hardy perennial has low to moderate moisture requirements. The flowers are insignificant and should be removed to help retain the mound like effect.

The blue fescue grass and its various cultivars is a gardeners delight. Fescue grass placement in a garden can attract the eye to a gardens focal point. Ornamental grasses have found homes in so many gardens because they add stature and unique forms to the landscape.
