Pampas grass can be a very attractive and functional plant when used correctly in the landscape. It can be used as a specimen plant in isolated locations on large lawns. Because it grows very rapidly into a massive plant, pampas grass is an excellent screening plant for sunny locations.

Pampas grass should be planted where it will receive full sun. Planting pampas grass in shady areas will result in slow growth and the pampas grass will not produce the beautiful plumes they are noted for. The plumes of pampas grass are sought after for indoor decorations. Prevent shedding of the fluffy flowers by cutting the stem as soon as they fully emerge.

Pampas grass, once established, is virtually trouble free. Garden pests or insects do not bother this plant. Use a complete fertilizer three or four times a year to promote growth and plume production.
